Betty LaMarr, CEO

Last week we interviewed Crystal Leon, Counselor and EMPOWHER Academy Teacher at Watts Learning Center Charter Middle School. The interview illuminated the devastating impact that the COVID-19 pandemic is having on students and their families – unemployment, food insecurities, housing insecurities.

As a member of our community and committed school partner, EmpowHer Institute could not stand idle when our students and families need us the most. We immediately committed to providing funds so that families could purchase food and necessities. We also called upon you, our family of supporters, to join us in helping students and families.

We called and you answered! I am blown away by the tremendous response. We received donations from past and present board members, mentors and supporters. We also received a generous grant of $10,000 from the Tyler Perry Foundation. It is with the help of our family of supporters that EmpowHer Institute is able to help 100 families purchase much needed food and necessities.  Thank you for helping our students and families get through this challenging time. We’re in this together!

Let’s help even more families. We invite you to share this message with your network. If you would like to donate, click the DONATE button below.
